DUNEX was a multi-agency, academic, and stakeholder-driven community experiment designed to study nearshore processes during coastal storms.
Hosted on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the experiment brought together more than 30 research teams from across the country to collect and analyze data before, during, and after storms.

To connect research with real-world needs, DUNEX hosted three Stakeholder Coffee Hours in 2021.
These virtual conversations brought together coastal managers and researchers to discuss challenges such as dune overtopping, soundside erosion, and beach nourishment.
Insights from these sessions will continue to inform future research and the development of usable tools for coastal practitioners.
